Halloween ( 2007 )

I'll admit I haven't been a big fan of Rob Zombie thus far, so when I heard he was doing a re-make of this classic film I cringed. One of the most notorious slashers flicks in screen history and Rob Zombie was about to butcher it, so to speak. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, it was actually not too bad. I like the fact he didn't stray to much from the original story line albeit he cranked the violence into overdrive, which I'll comment on shortly. As in the original it follows the story of Micheal Myers on his one night rampage through the town of Haddonfield, unlike the original it gives us alot more of the back story, the chain of event that turned this seemingly normal boy into the cold blooded killer that he is. We also get alot of insight into Micheal Myers time in prison before his eventual escape, I think this part of the film was incredibly well done as we get to see the gradual deterioration of Myers Physic over time. Of course as we all know this ends in the creation of the psychotic monster we've all become so familiar with. The film has an excellent cast that includes Malcolm McDowell, Brad Dourif, Sheri Moon Zombie and Daeg Faerch who plays the roll of Michael Myers (age 10) and does an absolutely incredible job. With regards to the violence a word of warning to those with a week stomach, THIS MOVIE AIN'T FOR YOU. Were John Carpenter relied more on suspense in the original film, Rob Zombie relies on blood and guts, and believe me there's alot of it. All in all this is a good film and I highly recommend it.
