The Happenning

I was somewhat optimistic about this film as the trailer looked pretty good. I liked Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable, but thought he kinda fell off the rails with The Village and Lady In The Water. Without putting to fine a point on it, this movie was a total hunk of you know what. I can now say without any shadow of doubt that M. Night Shyamalan has officially lost it. All I can say is the next thing this guy films outta be a soap commercial. I'm not going to waste much time on this one because it's such a nothing movie. The basic premise of this film has something in the air turning normal people into suicidal freeks trying to off themselves in anyway possible, prone to flinging themselves off buildings, blowing their brains out with a pistol or slashing their own wrists. Without giving too much away I'm sure Shyamalan was attempting to making some kinda environmental statement but it came off so dumb and stupid that by it's conclusion I was the one that wanted to fling myself off a building. Its been said in other reviews that plays out like a two hour episode of the "Twilight Zone" and I agree with this analogy. It starts off with bang and for the first 15 minutes I had the impression I was in for a wild ride... but then it stales, or rather it hits a brick wall and disintegrates. Shyamalam is successful for a short time building some suspense but there's no pay off. The Film stars Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel, who both do an acceptable job but of course there ain't much to work with on this turd. Stay away, this one it ain't worth it...
