WASHINGTON–"I'll see you at the debate, bitches."
With that tongue-in-cheek rejoinder to Barack Obama and John McCain, the latest collision of American politics and popular culture was complete, with the comic entry of Paris Hilton into the U.S. presidential race.
Hilton, famous for simply being famous, has posted her own video response to McCain's earlier campaign ad in which he painted Obama as a shallow celebrity in the same vein as Hilton and troubled pop singer Britney Spears – as a man known worldwide, but not necessarily ready to lead.
Hilton's campaign ad became an immediate online hit on comic Will Ferrell's FunnyorDie.com website with more than 4 million views in 24 hours.
But the socialite's intervention in the ongoing debate over gas prices here is just the latest trivialization of the overriding issue in the presidential campaign.
In the video, Hilton calls McCain "that wrinkly, white-haired guy" and refers to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as the world's oldest celebrity.
As she reclines on a lounge chair in a bathing suit, searching a magazine for the world's best tanning locales, she assures Americans she is "like, totally ready to lead," then weighs in on the number one campaign issue: high oil prices.

Go Paris !!!!
She's got my vote, unfortunatley under U.S. law, Hilton would not in fact be eligible to hold the office of the presidency for eight more years, she's still way too hot...errr, I mean young.
